What is CISCOTT?

The Central Illinois Stage Combat Teacher Trainer, also known as CISCOTT, is a two-week intensive in the study of teaching stage combat that runs concurrently with the first two weeks of The Central Illinois Stage Combat Workshop.

Eight student teachers are accepted into the teacher training program from a pool of applicants. The student teachers participate in classes on stage combat pedagogy, values-based leadership, acquiring tools for  inclusive rehearsals and classrooms, recognizing and dismantling the implicit ableism often found in theatrical spaces (particularly those founded in movement), classroom management, drill building, choreographing with purpose, history of weapon styles, and much more. Possibly most importantly, and the reason for the application-based entry, the student teachers will teach and assist stage combat classes when they are not in class themselves. During which, industry professionals will observe and then give support and feedback to the teachers.
